Sustainability isn’t a project – it’s a mindset
As a family-owned business, we think in terms of generations, not quarters. For us, sustainability isn’t just about filling a page in a sustainability report. It means operating with a long-term perspective, investing in people and our community – and taking responsibility for the legacy we leave behind.
In doing so, we combine three dimensions: environmental protection, social responsibility, and economic stability – not as conflicting goals, but as a unified whole.
This is nothing new at LEFFER. It has been part of our DNA since 1946.
Lower energy consumption, same performance
Since 2020, we have reduced energy consumption at our Dudweiler site by more than 40 percent – through targeted investments and continuous optimization of all production areas. Not by cutting back, but through better technology and more consistent processes.
This is not a one-time project. It is the result of a long-term approach: wherever possible, we reduce resource consumption, minimize waste, and rely on energy-efficient solutions – from lighting in the production hall to heat recovery in manufacturing.
Long service life instead of early replacement
LEFFER products are designed to last for decades something that is by no means a given in heavy equipment manufacturing. In addition, we offer professional refurbishment and maintenance services for existing equipment: gas tanks, pressure vessels, and machinery. Repairing a product instead of replacing it saves raw materials, energy, and costs – and actively promotes the circular economy.
Contribution to the Energy Transition
LEFFER’s core competencies – pressure vessels, gas storage, pipeline construction, and industrial assembly—are precisely the capabilities needed for the transition to a hydrogen economy. We don’t just supply infrastructure for new energy sources—we also implement it, right down to the installation of large-scale electrolysis plants. Our specialized civil engineering machinery lays the foundations for wind turbines. What was once built for mining and nuclear energy now serves the cause of decarbonization.
Investing in People
For us, sustainability also means investing in the next generation. Since we opened our own training workshop in 2021, the number of apprentices has grown from one to over sixteen per year—across seven apprenticeship programs, supplemented by two dual degree programs. Every apprentice works on real projects from the very beginning – not on training exercises, but on components that will later be used around the world. This is our contribution to developing skilled workers in the region.
Recognized for Sustainable Business Practices
In 2025, LEFFER was awarded the Oskar Patzelt Foundation’s Grand Prize for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises—as one of the top three companies in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland out of more than 4,200 nominated companies. The award recognizes achievements in the areas of business development, job creation and training, innovation and modernization, regional and social engagement, as well as customer and supplier relationships.
